so this vinyl is like a bambo print and im not too sure how well i like it.. looks kinda funky!! but... i got it at TJ Max for $5!! good deal!

Canvas Rugs

Woo Hoo! A rug that can be swept and mopped! Seriously. I love rugs in general, especially the way a cute rug looks under a table. It defines the space and is a chance to add some more color, pattern and texture. However, after many years of living with a cute rug under the table where we do most of our eating, I have developed some issues. Such as my family tends to spill. A lot. The last rug I had was chocolate brown sisal. Very cute. But it had to be vacuumed to get the crumbs (yes, I am that lazy-I hate to pull out all of the chairs and vacuum everyday) and things like mashed potatoes were really good at getting ground in permanently. Plus it completely stretched out of shape. So I made a canvas rug for cheap cheap cheap. This turned out so great! I used a $10 9'x6' canvas drop cloth from Walmart and painted and sealed it with stuff I already had. It can be swept with a broom and spills can be wiped up with a damp cloth. And because I used a drop cloth it was even hemmed already! I really like the light colored stripes for spring and summer. The great thing about a rug like this is the possibilities are endless. Any color, any pattern would work. I've already been thinking about zebra stripes, diamonds, big graphic florals, random typography, damask, monograms...anything I could either tape off or trace:) And I definitely want to make a couple smaller, coordinating monogrammed ones for my kitchen sink area and maybe my laundry.

This would also be a great solution for tables that must live on carpeted areas-I've had a house like that before -not really that fun.

I’m Jamielyn from I {Heart} Naptime and I’m SO excited to be guest posting here today! U-Create was one of the first blogs I started following and I completely adore Kari and her blog. I feel completely honored to be here today to share a fun tutorial with you!

A little bit about me:

I love to bake… and eat lots of cookies. I am learning to sew, and enjoying the process. I love trying new things, and I’m not afraid of messing up the first (or second) time around.

Today I’m going to show you how to make one of these fun vintage lace cuffs. They are super cute and super easy to make. I promise you’ll get tons of compliments out on your hot date! Let's get started shall we?

Supplies Needed:

Stretchy Lace (Found at HL or Jo-Ann’s)
felt
1 pearl
satin, or scrap fabric
tulle
hot glue

STEP 1:

Cut lace to desired length. I measured around my wrist and 5 1/2 in. was perfect.
Then cut lace to desired width. The lace was a little wide for my taste, so I trimmed it down to 2 in. following the same scalloped pattern for the edge.

STEP 2:
Cut (6) 1 1/2 in circles for the flower and (1) 1 1/2 in circle for the base. I used satin fabric for the circles.

STEP 3 (Making the flower):

Fold circle in half. Place a little dab of glue in right corner and fold corner so it's meeting in the middle.

Flip circle over and then add a little glue to the right corner and fold in to create a slice of pie!
Repeat 6 times!

STEP 4:

Glue the 6 pieces onto the “base” circle creating a whole (yummy FRESH strawberry) pie! Mmm PIE!

STEP 5:

Add pearl to center of the flower and a little tulle underneath if desired.
Glue lace to felt piece and then hot glue the flower down covering the seam.
Now Enjoy your fun new vintage lace cuff!

Orange Brownies

The reviews for this recipe are out of this world! every person wrote that you will not be disappointed! even if you are not a fan of orange candies these are apparently a million times better! i cant wait to try them!!

Orange Brownies (Recipe Courtsey of Paula Deen)

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
4 eggs
2 teaspoons pure orange extract
1 teaspoon grated orange zest

Glaze:

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon grated orange zest

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease a 13 by 9 by 2-inch pan and set aside. In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, and salt. Add butter, eggs, orange extract, and orange zest and beat with a handheld electric mixer until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until light golden brown and set. Remove from oven and pierce top of entire cake with a fork.

Glaze:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl, stirring until smooth. Pour glaze over cake. Cool cake and cut into squares

Painting rugs was a TON of fun!! I have to say this is one of my most favorite Create With Me projects!

I was scared that I’d go buy a rug and royally mess it up by painting it…that wasn’t the case (even though it’s not perfect) and it was so much fun trying something new!

Let’s jump right in and get started!

I’ll start with mine…

I wasn’t sure what design I wanted to try on my rug. I’m really loving the look of hounds tooth lately and I just finished this quilt recently so my pattern choice: HOUNDSTOOTH!

I bought a large rug at Ikea for this project, but later that evening I was at Target and saw this one with a red border. I had to have it for my hounds tooth rug and you can guarantee I’ll be painting my Ikea rug for the deck soon!
